Why
does it keep asking me to input my password?
You
might have the caps lock key on, or entering the wrong / misspelled password,
or you locked yourself out of the internet by entering the incorrect password
3 or more times. Our authentication software is configured to lock out
an account once the account has been denied access three consecutive times.
This is designed to prevent hackers. We recommend that you call technical
support to verify your password if you have forgotten it.
Why
do I get an error of: Unable to establish a dial up connection?
You have severed the software connection from your internet browser
to the dial up networking connection. You must go to "My Computer",
then to "Dial Up Networking", and then right button click on
"Surfside Internet". Left click on "Connect". When
it gives you the "Connect To" screen, enter your password and
then hit "Connect" at the bottom. That should connect you to
the internet.
Unable
to send and receive e-mail, Why?
First you must make sure that you are in the "Inbox".
You need to make sure that the mail configurations are correct. (ie. Incoming
and outgoing server is specified correctly, in addition to account information
and e-mail address.)
Why
does it ask me for my password when I try and go into my e-mail?
It could be that your log on password is not entered into the
mail configurations.
Why
is it when I try to receive my e-mail messages, it will tell me that it
is retrieving 1 of __ and it never brings any of them up?
It could be that you have a corrupt folder or that someone has
sent you a big file and your memory is insufficient to receive it. If
you feel you have sufficient memory ask us to take a look at your mailbox
to find corrupt e-mail. If there is corrupt mail, the only way to solve
the problem is to delete the mail which cannot be recovered.
When
I am connected to the internet, I cannot go to any other websites.
It could be that you are really not logged on. Look at the bottom
right hand corner of the task bar. If there is a small icon representing
a modem with two green or red terminals flashing or a small icon representing
two computers connected by a phone line, then you are connected. If these
icons are not present then you are not connected. Close out of the screen,
and log on again. Or, establish an internet connection through the Surfside
Internet icon found in the "Dial Up Networking" folder of the
"My Computer" icon located on your desktop. If you cannot go
to a specific website it is very likely that you are connected to the
internet, only the web site's servers are down temporarily.
Why
is it when I connect, the Surfside Internet homepage does not come up?
Go to the internet icon on the desktop, and right button click
on it. Scroll down to properties and left click. Go to Navigation. Under
Address, type in: http://www.surfside.net when completed, click "Apply"
and then "OK". Accessing the internet properties panel can also
be achieved through double-clicking the "Internet" icon found
within the "Control Panel".
How do I change my password?
Please call us and let us know what you would like the new password
to be.
What
does it mean when it says, check your TCP/IP settings?
You must go to "My Computer", "Control Panel",
"Network", and make sure that "Client for Microsoft Networks"
is the first thing in the configuration window. Then scroll down to TCP/IP
(highlight) then click on Properties. Make sure all the configurations
are in there correctly as specified in Check Your Network Settings section
of Help On-Line.
When
I send email, it comes back that the recipient can not be found?
You must make sure that you entered the name and address correctly.
If it is supposed to be in all lower case then you must type it exactly
as it is supposed to be. Make sure you have periods instead of commas.
Can
I have two email addresses under the same browser?
You can have two email addresses under one browser, however,
you have to keep changing the mail configurations every time you want
to read each others email. It is recommended that you download another
browser, (Netscape if you are using Explorer already, and Explorer if
you are using Netscape already) that way you can have one email address
under the Explorer browser and the other one under the Netscape browser.
If I have a 56k modem, do I have to change any of my settings?
No, you do not have to change anything. The only thing you might
want to check is your maximum modem speed. You need to go to "My
Computer", "Dial Up Networking", then right button click
on "Surfside Internet" icon. Scroll down to "Properties",
left button click. Go to "Configure", (on the bottom). Look
at the maximum speed, and make sure that it reads 115200.
Unable
to receive email. Why?
First check the incoming POP3 mail server settings, it needs
to be mail.surfside.net exactly. If you have "Outlook Express",
you might have the "Reply" screen filled in with your address.
This line should be left blank.
When trying to log in, it won’t dial the number. Why?
Go to the internet properties panel by right button clicking
on the internet icon found on the desktop. From the menu that appears
select "Properties". Click on the "Connection" tab
found along the top of the internet properties panel. Check that connection
settings are correct.
What
does it mean when I get an error, "unable to locate modem",
or you can not hear the modem working?
Try a cold boot on your system. Turn off your system, wait 10
seconds, then turn back on the system. Then try to get on the internet
again.
